Villain
Villains, Bad guy, Evil mastermind
Every good story needs a villain, and dreams borrow the role freely: the cackling mastermind, the cold-hearted rival, the figure in black who seems to be behind every problem. A villain is often the mind's way of turning messy, scattered troubles into one character you can understand and outsmart. If you know the person playing the part, look at the tension between you rather than at their real character. Being the villain yourself can come from feeling misjudged, or from a wish to stop pleasing everyone for once. Defeating the bad guy says you're starting to feel a match for whatever has been working against you.
