Homecoming
Homecoming game, Homecoming dance, Coming home
Every fall, American high schools and colleges hold homecoming: a week of spirit days, a parade with floats, a football game, the crowning of homecoming royalty and often a dance. It began as a way to welcome graduates back to campus. In Texas, students wear huge homecoming mums, flower corsages trailing ribbons in school colors. The word also simply means coming home after a long time away. Either way, a homecoming dream is about being welcomed and counted as one of the group. It can come when you're returning to a place, a job or a circle of friends, and wondering how you'll be received.
Dream variations
- Building a homecoming floatYou love making something with a team, even if it only has to last one afternoon. The friendships built around the chicken wire and tissue paper will outlast the float.
- Wearing a giant Texas mumYou want to show, loud and proud, who you're with and where you belong. There's no shame in a little extra sparkle.
- A crowd waiting for you at the arrivals gateYou're hoping your return will be noticed and celebrated. Tell people you're coming back, and let them make a fuss.
