Hollywood
Hollywood sign, Movie industry, Tinseltown
Hollywood is just one Los Angeles neighborhood, yet its name stands for the whole American film industry and the dream of making it big. The famous white letters on Mount Lee went up in 1923 as an advertisement for a housing development called Hollywoodland, and the last four letters came down in 1949. Dreaming of Hollywood often stirs up ambition, glamour and the wish to turn a private dream into something the world can see. It can also raise questions about image: how much of what dazzles you is real, and how much is a well-lit set.
