Dungeon
Dungeons, Castle dungeon, Underground cell
A dungeon is the deepest, darkest room of an old castle, with cold stone, iron bars and a single torch on the wall. Dreams put you down there when something has been shut away out of sight, like a hurt you never talked about or a feeling you were told to keep quiet. Being held there can come from a sense that someone else controls your situation. Exploring one out of curiosity shows courage in looking at the difficult corners of your life. Climbing up into daylight is the most hopeful version of all: an old heaviness is being left behind.
Dream variations
- Being locked in a dungeonYou may be punishing yourself for an old mistake longer than anyone else would. Ask what it would take to call the sentence served.
- Finding a hidden dungeonThere's more beneath a familiar situation than you were told, perhaps an old family story. Hear it from someone who was there before you fill in the gaps yourself.
- Freeing someone from a dungeonYou've noticed someone who has been left out or shut away, in your family or at work. A visit, an invitation or a kind word can open more than you'd guess.
- A dungeon in a video gameYou're facing a challenge in stages, one room at a time. Clear each level before worrying about the final one.
