Spring break
Spring vacation, Spring break trip, College break
Spring break is the week or two off that American schools and colleges take in March or April. For many college students it means a trip somewhere warm, from Florida and South Padre Island in Texas to Cancún in Mexico. The tradition took off in Fort Lauderdale in the 1950s, and the 1960 film Where the Boys Are made it famous. Others spend it at home, working or catching up. In a dream, spring break is about permission: a set time when the usual rules relax. It may come when you're midway through a demanding stretch and long for a pause with a clear start and end.
Dream variations
- Studying while everyone else is awayYou're choosing duty over fun for now. That can feel good, but put your own break on the calendar so it actually happens.
- Going on spring break as a grown-upYou're checking whether an old kind of fun still suits the person you are now. Keep the parts that still make you laugh, and skip the rest without guilt.
- A spring break party that isn't your sceneYou're feeling pressure to have fun the way everyone else does. You're allowed to relax your own way, even if it's quieter.
- Heading back to campus after the breakYou're dreading the return to routine after a stretch of freedom. Swap stories with the people coming back with you; a shared groan makes the first day lighter.
