Rickshaw
Auto rickshaw, Tuk-tuk, Cycle rickshaw
The rickshaw began in Japan around 1869 as a two-wheeled cart pulled by a runner, and spread quickly across Asia. Hand-pulled rickshaws still roll through Kolkata, but most today are cycle rickshaws, like the brightly painted ones of Dhaka, or motorized auto rickshaws, the three-wheeled tuk-tuks that weave through Indian traffic. A rickshaw dream often puts you in the thick of a busy street, close to the noise, smells and near misses. It can be about getting through chaos with nerve and flexibility, and about noticing the effort of the person who carries you.
