Mockingbird
Mockingbirds, Northern mockingbird, Bird that copies other birds
The northern mockingbird can learn dozens of other birds' songs and string them together in one long, inventive medley. It's the state bird of Texas, Florida, Mississippi, Arkansas and Tennessee, and a familiar voice in Southern yards, often singing late into the night. Dreaming of one may be about talent and adaptability, or about borrowing other people's ways until you find your own. Harper Lee's novel To Kill a Mockingbird made the bird a symbol of innocence, of those who do no harm and deserve protection. A mockingbird guarding its nest shows a fierce, protective love.
