Lighthouse

Lighthouses, Beacon, Lighthouse keeper

Standing on rocks at the edge of the sea, a lighthouse does one job night after night: it shows ships where the danger is and where the way home lies. A dream lighthouse often has to do with guidance, whether that's a person you look to, your own values or a goal that keeps you oriented. Seeing its beam through darkness or fog is a hopeful sign that you'll find your bearings. Its beam sweeps round in the same slow rhythm all night, which gives the dream a patient, watchful feel. Painted stripes and a lonely coastline give it a faraway feel that can stir a longing for wide horizons.

Dream variations

• A lighthouse beam in a stormEven when you can't see much, you know where the rocks are. Take the longer, safer way round.
• A lighthouse with no lightA source of guidance has gone dark. Look for a new reference point while you wait.
• Being the lighthouse keeperYou're the one people count on to stay put and keep watch. Take turns with someone so you can rest too.
