Leaving home
Moving out of your parents' house, Leaving the nest, First time away from home
Walking out of your parents' door with your life in a few boxes is one of the great crossings of growing up. Dreams of leaving home often return years later, whenever you're stepping into more independence or loosening an old tie. They can also come when you want to make decisions without checking in first. If you left eagerly, part of you is hungry for a life on your own terms. If you kept looking back, you're still deciding how much of your family's way to take with you. Parents have this dream too, as their children grow up.
