Failure
Failing, Feeling like a failure, Messing up
Failing at something important is a dream many capable people know well, and it rarely matches their real record. It tends to show up when the stakes have risen: a bigger role, a public promise or a project with your name on it. Part of it is the fear of being found out, the nagging sense that others overrate you. Part of it is practice: the dream lets you live through the worst case and wake up still standing. Notice what happened after the failure. If life simply went on, you can probably afford to try something bolder than you've allowed yourself.
Dream variations
- Failing in front of everyoneYou're worried that a public mistake will define you. A single bad moment is a small part of a long story; let it stay small.
- Failing at something you're good atDoubt has crept into an area where you're usually sure. Rest and practice will restore your confidence faster than worry.
- Trying again after failingYou have more staying power than you realize. Go back to the thing you dropped and give it one more honest try.
- Someone else failingYou may be worried for a person under pressure, or quietly relieved it wasn't you. Offer support without comparing.
