Altar
Altars, Home altar, Standing at the altar
An altar is a place where something is set apart as precious: an offering, a promise, a photo of someone loved. In a dream it often asks what you're devoting yourself to, and what you're willing to give up for it. A well-kept altar with fresh flowers goes with commitments that feel right and are lovingly tended. A bare or neglected one can show that something you once held sacred has quietly lost its place. Many homes keep small altars or shrines for prayer or remembrance, so the dream may simply carry respect for family, ancestors or faith. Being left at the altar is the famous fear of being let down at the last moment.
Dream variations
- Kneeling at an altarYou're about to commit to something that matters. Say yes only when you're sure you can follow through.
- Placing an offering on an altarYou're giving time, effort or comfort to a cause or a person. Make sure the gift is freely given.
- Building an altar at homeYou want daily life to hold more meaning. Put one thing that reminds you what you live for where you'll see it every morning.
- Being left at the altarYou're not sure the other side is as committed as you are. Ask the honest questions now, well before the big day.
