Poppy

Poppies, Red poppy, Poppy field

Bright red poppies scattered through a field look cheerful and fragile at once, their papery petals gone within days. Dream poppies speak of vivid feelings and short-lived beauty. Poppies also carry two famous stories. In "The Wizard of Oz" a field of them lulls Dorothy to sleep, so they can stand for comfort that draws you away from your path. Since World War I, the red poppy has been worn around November 11 in Britain, Canada and other countries to remember those who served.
