Peony

Peonies, Pink peony, Peony bush

Peonies open from tight, round buds into huge, ruffled blooms that seem almost too heavy for their stems. In a dream they often carry abundance, romance and a happiness that arrives all at once after a long wait. The plants can live for decades in the same spot, so they may also stand for love or friendship that comes back stronger every year. In China the peony has long been called the king of flowers and is linked with honor and good fortune. Its scent, rich and a little old-fashioned, can bring back a grandmother's garden or a June wedding.
