Moss

Mossy stones, Moss-covered, Green moss

Moss grows slowly in shady, damp places, softening stones, tree trunks and old walls with a thick green layer. A dream full of moss is often about time: what develops when nothing is rushed. A deep cushion of moss can feel restful, a sign you long for a quieter, slower pace. Moss creeping over something you once used can hint at a skill, a plan or a friendship you've neglected for a while. The old saying "a rolling stone gathers no moss" raises its own question: do you want to settle down, or to keep moving?

Dream variations

• Lying on soft mossYou're craving softness after a stretch of hard edges. Be gentle with yourself today, in what you say and what you ask of yourself.
• Moss covering an old objectWhat's under the moss may still be sound. Decide whether to clean it off and use it again.
• Scraping moss awayYou're clearing out a stale habit or an old belief. Go carefully; some of what's underneath may be worth keeping.
