Losing your voice
Lost voice, No voice, Voice gone
Your voice fades to a croak or a whisper, or disappears just when you need it. Unlike a frozen scream in a nightmare, this is a slow loss, and the dream often follows a period of talking plenty while feeling heard very little. It can come before a moment when your words will matter, like a meeting, an apology or a hard conversation, and you're worried they won't come out right. Sometimes others are speaking for you, so your own view has gone quiet. A hoarse, tired voice may simply say you've given a lot of yourself lately and could use a pause.
Dream variations
- Only able to whisperYour point is sound, but you're delivering it too softly. Choose one person and say it to them clearly first.
- Someone else answering for youOthers have been telling your side of the story. Correct one detail, calmly, in your own words.
- Singing without a voiceYou want to join in with something joyful but feel out of practice. Hum along for now; the rest will come.
- Your voice coming backAfter a stretch of holding back, you're ready to say more. Start with a few easy words; the bigger ones will follow.
