Evil eye

The evil eye is an old belief, found from Ireland to India, that an envious look can bring misfortune. Many people still hang a blue glass eye bead, often called a nazar, in their homes or wear one on a bracelet to turn that look away. In a dream, the evil eye has less to do with magic than with feelings: worry about other people's envy, or a sense that someone is keeping score. Wearing a blue eye charm suggests you're guarding your happiness by keeping some things private.

Also called: Nazar, Evil eye charm, Blue eye bead

Dream variations

Someone giving you the evil eye

You suspect someone resents your success. Their envy is about their story, not yours, so carry on, just a little more quietly.

Receiving a nazar bead

Someone is proud of you and a little protective of your good news. Share it with them, and keep the details between the two of you.

A cracked eye charm

In many traditions, a cracked charm is said to have done its job. Something unpleasant may have passed you by without your noticing.

Giving someone the evil eye yourself

Envy has slipped in, and you're not proud of it. A sincere compliment to that person can take the bite out of it, for both of you.
